Puerto Vallarta is a beautiful city and a popular tourist destination, known for stunning beaches, lush jungles, and vibrant culture. For those looking for a more quiet, peaceful experience, the southern shores outside of Puerto Vallarta are a great way to get out of the city and explore areas only accessible by boat. These include Playa Colomitos, Las Animas, Quimixto, Majahuitas, Yelapa, and all the uninhabited beaches in between.
Playa Colomitos is a great option. Located just south of Puerto Vallarta and a short boat ride from Boca de Tomatlan (or a 45-minute hike), this small beach offers beautiful views, clear water, and decent snorkeling. There is also a small shop with drinks and snacks for visitors to enjoy. The restaurant, Ocean Grill, is also on this cove, and has great food and drinks.
At Playa Colomitos, the scenery is gorgeous. The beach is surrounded by cliffs and thick jungle, providing an idyllic backdrop for a few hours of relaxation. The clear water is perfect for swimming. Visitors can relax on the beach or explore the nearby caves, hiking paths, and rocky shoreline.
Whether you’re looking for a peaceful day of lounging on the beach or a little more adventure, this beach is a beautiful spot to spend an afternoon. Playa Colomitos offers a way to spend a few hours near Puerto Vallarta without getting too far off the beaten path.
How to Get to Playa Colomitos
There are several ways to get to Playa Colomitos. You can take a panga or water taxi out of Boca de Tomatlan, you can hike, or you can incorporate it into a longer day out on your own private boat with captain. It is a small beach and can, at times, be crowded. If you prefer something more quiet and isolated, we can help find the perfect spot for a relaxing day for you.
Most people prefer to take a private boat a little farther away to some of the smaller pueblos for a more rich and varied experience. Playa Colomitos is close and convenient to Boca de Tomatlan. For people with limited time, it’s a nice choice. From Playa Colomitos, you still have the option of going a little farther to Las Animas, or Quimixto for a different experience on larger beaches.
Our popular tours usually have ample time to explore three or four different areas on the southern shores, so there are a variety of options to find the right fit for your day if you opt for a private boat tour.
For a quick hike or water taxi ride from Boca de Tomatlan to get away for a couple hours, Playa Colomitos can be a great option.
